The Conference and the Environment
The GANZ 2010 Conference is a carboNZero™(Cert) certified event. This means that we will measure, manage and offset the Green House Gas (GHG) emissions associated with the conference organisation and implementation. After the event, an audit will be performed to ensure the conference has met the carboNZero program requirements.
There are a variety of carbon credit offset processes available in the market and some are certainly less credible then others. The NZ conference committee (The G10) researched the most creditable and robust program available. Landcare Research’s carboNZero program is the world’s first accredited greenhouse gas certification scheme. The accreditation was made by the Joint Accreditation System – Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) which comes under the auspices of the International Accreditation Forum. Further information is available at www.carbonzero.co.nz
Whilst the GHG emissions relating to the conference are being covered as part of your registration fee your personal impact such as accommodation, personal waste, recreation activity and travel energy emission impacts are not. We encourage all attendees to try and reduce their own GHG emissions and where they can't reduce further to offset the remaining unavoidable emissions by purchasing verified carbon credits. To mitigate other emissions you can also purchase credits through carboNZero program. Please click here to calculate your emissions and offset them. You can pay online via a secure site. In order to track those that are taking this option - when you are entering your name for the certificate - please enter GANZ2010 before your name.
We will be communicating with you in the lead up to the conference on actions that we are taking and that you can take to minimise our GHG impact.
If you have any queries regarding the carboNZero program, or how we as the committee are managing the process please feel free to contact Ian Rae.
The GANZ Conference Dinner
On the Saturday night of the conference (September 4) the conference dinner will held at the Skyline Restaurant. This extraordinary venue is on top of the mountain over looking Queenstown.
