Graduate Diploma in Gestalt Therapy at the Illawarra
Gestalt Centre. The co-directors will be available

This workshop will
present an introduction to the theory, skills and
practice in the Gestalt approach to counselling and
therapy. The day will provide an overview of Gestalt
Therapy, particularly for those considering
enrolment in the 2004 Gestalt Approach in
Counselling program.
Course participants will be introduced to the
core concepts of Gestalt Therapy - the Dialogical
relationship; Awareness and phenomenology;
Experiment and Gestalt therapy methodology; and the
Field theory perspective.
There will also be an overview to Gestalt
therapy methods in working with dreams, art therapy,
enactment and guided imagery. |

The course looks at the
importance of dreams and the various models offered
to work with dreams in different schools of
psychotherapy, particularly from Gestalt therapy and
Jungian psychotherapy. There will be opportunity for
students to also work on dreams with the facilitator
and develop ongoing dream work through the use of
journal work, artwork, stories and other creative
expansion of the dream language. |

The process of working
with artwork provides ways to develop awareness
beyond the traditional verbal focus of counselling,
and at the same time experience enjoyment, fun and a
greater sense of well-being.
Topics covered include: encouraging the
creative process; artwork in individual and group
therapy; the use of guided imagery and music;
discovering themes and issues from artwork;
developing exploration and dialogue; and the
application of artwork beyond the therapy setting. |
