PD and Supervision

Professional Development (PD) and Supervision are ethical and professional responsibilities for practicing therapsits.

Renewal of membership at Fellow, Clinical or Member levels of GANZ is dependent upon completing and reporting a minimum of 10 hours of clinical supervision annually. Supervision is defined in the PD and Supervision Section of this website.

It is strongly preferred that supervision be provided by Clinical Members of GANZ. Peer group supervision and group supervision are not to be seen as a substitute for individual supervison.

Supervision and PD reporting forms are downloadable using the Renewal of Membership Forms, which also provide some guidelines where your practice is not clinically oriented. This is an ongoing annual requirement for renewal of membership.

Professional Development Activities

Reporting on Professional Development activities other than the annual supervision requirement occurs every second year. This means that by July 2012, you will have needed to complete 20 hours of PD activities since July 2010. The definition of PD activities is outlined below.

There is a strong preference for face to face activities, such as seminars and workshops, conference attendance, or further training. These should be related to improving your practice, so workshops on practice management, specific techniques or clinical application areas (or area of practice for non-clinical members) are acceptable, as well as those that are Gestalt specific. However, attending a seminar on marketing or financial management would not be acceptable.

Other activities that will be recognized are: presenting at conferences on gestalt related topics; presenting seminars/ workshops of a gestalt nature (excluding delivering training programmes as a faculty trainer); having an article published in a peer reviewed journal; and up to 10 hours of supervision over and above that reported on annual supervision forms. It is acknowledged that members who live in places remote from large centres may have some difficulty in meeting these hours in the ways suggested, and so self development activities such as journal reading may be acceptable for up to half of the required hours in this instance.

Other activities that you consider to be suitable may be listed for consideration. If you have been unable to meet the requirements, please outline reasons why your ongoing membership should be considered.

Members who wish to be listed on the PACFA Register will also need to be aware of the supervision requirements set by PACFA.
